The measures that are run to define a site is based on a preconceived opinion of how and by who the site will be used. We build playgrounds for children to use, but we don´t expect the narcs, "the unwanted", to also find their place right there. The sites loose, or sometimes don´t even gain their proposed function. We make a new try, to put the site in order, to estimate new methods that this time around will even more sincerly protect the original idea.

A couple of years ago the Council of Stockholm proposed a program for reshaping the area around Katarina Bangata (a street), in Stockholm, Sweden. The program that was carried out in 1997 aimed at creating an attractive environment for the clientele that the council expected the area to attract. The council attacked, among other things, the old benches with back support that had been lining the streets for years. they gave a promising (!), young designer the assignment to design a new bench that would not be a tempting restingplace for more than a couple of minutes and certainly not a place to lay your body down to rest. The result was a s-formed bench, withoutback support and divided into two halfs, a construction that now dominates the area. It is almost impossible to lay down on the benches without falling of and it is certainly not a pleasant rest.
