We have developed a technique where we make large mosaics out of small plaster vinyl squares, most commonly 15x15mm in size. The vinyl squares is cut from big sheets of vinyl using a vinyl plotter. We use a digital picture as original, making each pixels size correspond to the actual size of the plastic squares, i.e. 15x15mm. We then lay the picture in real size, putting each vinyl square on a tarpaulin streched out on a floor. When the picture is all done we transfer the vinyl pieces to a "transfer adhesive tape" and are then able to paste it onto a wall or a window as a single piece, even though it consists of several thousand vinyl squares.
The vinyl used is adhesive vinyl for outdoor use preferably with a weather resistance guaranty of at least 7 - 9 years. We highly recomend Avery 7000 for its low price and nice colors. This vinyl alongside with supertack coated adhessive paper is also our favorite chose when printing stickers. check out a mosaic movie clip | |
